Post-Human

from Path of Desolation by Deadlight Holiday

about

The Song was written about the connections and bonds we make with our friends, family, and loved ones, and the hope that one day when the Universe ends and begins again we are able to find them again in the next life. The song isn't religious, or even scientific, it's purely a dream in hoping that one day, in one form or another, that in a universe of infinite timelines that we get to somehow reconnect with someone we love. Post-Human's name refers to the transcendence of our humanity, not being bound to our mortal bodies, but rather just a soul connection that doesn't wither against time.

The music was written impromptu by Kyle Panek and Shane Seppala live on stage because they needed to fill a 4 hours setlist. While playing we looked at each-other and without saying an words were both like 'Dude don't forget this song'. I went home and quickly recorded the entire song in one sitting. Then Shane and I spent a while working on the lyrics. Initially I wrote 3 pages of lyrics that didn't have any melodic connotation, but rather were just words of what the music painted. Shane and I would sit down and boil down those lyrics, reorganize them, delete them, and perfect them. We probably went through 3 different final forms until we landed on the finished version.

However we still didn't have a chorus, drawing from some of the phrases of my 3 page manifesto of lyrics, as well as a large percent of his own lyrics, Shane wrote a chorus while he was at work. We recorded the vocals, and the song, as well as the entire album, just all clicked together with that final chorus. The meaning came full circle with the album's concept, and brought closure to it.

That road in life
Now I found you here
Way out beyond the stars
Another year
Another Life
Heaven sent me with my scars
Come in circles in the night sky
With no distance in my eyes
Desolation not infinite
Heaven sent me with my life

Trivia: The lyric crystal wrists split the sky is a reference to the song 'Crystal Wrists' by Peter Murphy.

lyrics

We pass it by in the night
Crystal wrists split the sky
Moments faded in time
She mends her wings at my side
Never was a part of me
Forever can't be just pretend
Never was a part of me
Now I see the end
Broken wings bend
And melt with you
"Promise me" she said
"You'll find your way
And come back some day"
Together in the end
That road in life
Now I found you here
Way out beyond the stars
Another year
Another Life
Heaven sent me with my scars
Come in circles in the night sky
With no distance in my eyes
Desolation not infinite
Heaven sent me with my life
