about

The song, whilst being an instrumental, tells the story of someone revisiting old memories. As they are looking back, the bad memories begin to surface and cause a shift in mood. It ends with the memories falling apart as reality begins to set in.

The song was written with the idea of the slow descent into chaos that people with PTSD feel at times. Where a memory or event that should be looked back upon as fondly is taken from them and clouded by something awful or unexpected happening.

The song ends in a different key than it begin in, with the bass line slowly descending chromatically. Heavy amounts of reverb were used on guitars stacked with synths. The beginning and end feature an old film reel playing and eventually falling apart as it ends. Although we almost never play it live, Disillusion has always been a favorite of mine.
