Aesthetics of a Dream

from Path of Desolation by Deadlight Holiday

/

about

Aesthetics of a Dream was my greatest undertaking as a songwriter. The music begin writing in 2015 with all of the verses and choruses being written. By 2016 a bridge and solo was added and the music side of things was done. Throughout 2017 many drafts of lyrics were written by the band, but ultimately everything was scrapped and I ended up writing lyrics of my own that painted a picture that reflected the Triptych that made up Leaves of I, Disillusion, and Aesthetics of a Dream.

The song is about the constant shifts in ones mood, from euphoria to depression. The lyrics feature two nameless characters, one being based in reality, while the other is one's darker subconscious. Reality is seemingly more euphoric and happy sonically by comparison than its darker counter-part. However lyrically, the happier moments feature more pessimistic and nihilistic views on life. The Darker Side, serving as the chorus, is about building yourself up from the chaos in life, and believing in ones self because nobody else will unless you do first. The song resolves musically into chaos, but ends with you, the individual deciding your own meaning as to how you want to look back on your life, as well as the previous two songs preceding this one.

lyrics

The star that come from
The ground that we fall from
The shades of red fade out
Born in the silence
With colors of violence
A setting for dead suns
Aesthetics of None
Risen from what became
The spell I cast on you
The Ghost I see...
Is just a part of fiction
I bleed myself
For nobody else
Inside this prison
Just a Faint Illusion
And being so young
And dipped in the folly
I fell in love with the melancholy
Lost in myself
Among nobody else
I glared too long
Into someone else
Risen from what became
The spell I cast on you
The Ghost I see...
Is just a part of fiction
I bleed myself
For nobody else
Inside this prison
Just a Faint Illusion
And being so young
My mind was rewinding
I fell into place
With a life behind me
Lost in myself
Among nobody else
I glared too long
Into someone else
